Kick-Off… Tomorrow!

SO! Kick off, THIS SUNDAY!

Here are the details, which I’ll also send out in an email to make sure that EVERYONE knows what’s going on! What: Our NaNoWriMo Kick-Off Event!

Where: Blue Dog Cafe, upstairs meeting room — 199 Brant Ave, Brantford, ON —

When: 2pm-4pm, November 1st (Sunday)

Why?: Because it’s the first of November, and we have a long month ahead of us!

What’s this all about?: This is an opportunity to meet the other people in our community who are attempting this crazy endeavor known as NaNoWriMo. We’ll get together, introduce ourselves, maybe chat a bit about our novels, and maybe play a few silly games to help us feel less awkward about meeting new people! We’ll let loose, have fun, and get excited about writing together.

Why should I come?: Even if you can’t make it to any of the write-ins during the month, the Kick-Off is a way to start off your month encouraged and excited about the next 30 days. Meet like-minded people who genuinely want to see you succeed, and who knows? Maybe you’ll get some inspiration for that sticky plot point you just *couldn’t* figure out. But wait, there’s more… there will be surprises for attendees… emphasis on the ‘prizes’!

My parents are concerned about me going off to meet a bunch of strangers…: If you’re under 18 and want to come to our Kick-Off, write-ins, and/or TGIO party, and your parents are concerned or have any questions about the event whatsoever, please let me know. I’d be happy to send them an email or give them a phone call to ease their minds, and reassure them that we really are quite the friendly lot.

ONE FINAL THING: If you are under 18 AND are going to be attending our events, REGARDLESS of your parents’ feelings about it, I have one teeny-tiny favor to ask that’ll take 2 seconds for you to complete. Please send me a quick NaNoMail or email to let me know you’re coming, and I’ll send you a release form for your parents to sign. I know you’re probably all super-stellar and wouldn’t do anything weird like set fire to the cafe’s trash cans or run off to the circus, but as the event organizer I don’t want to be held responsible by your parents if you get one of these sudden impulses, m’okay? So I’ll just email over a quick document for them to sign and that you can return to me at our first meeting. Easy as that!

If you plan to attend the Kick-Off, please send me a NaNoMail or email (or Facebook, Twitter, or comment on the regional website) so that I can get enough ’surprises’ ready for everyone… I don’t want anyone to be disappointed at the event and have to wait for me to get more ready, but I also can’t afford to get 20 surprises together and only have 6 people there to receive them… make sense? :)

So, that said… see you this Sunday for some NaNoWriMo awesomeness! (As usual, please send me a NaNoMail or contact me through any of the other means if you have questions, concerns, suggestions, or just some general comments about NaNo.)

Interview with Your ML

Hey Super Awesome Wrimos!!!

Are there people in your life who “just don’t get” NaNoWriMo? Why not have someone else explain it to them! Sometimes parents or friends simply need to hear it from another person before things start to sink in, especially when it comes to an event as crazy as what we’re about to attempt this November.

So, if you’re in our region and happen to have cable, tune into Rogers Cable 20 this Friday at 5:30pm. The program is ‘FirstLocal’, and your ML will be on there for a short segment, talking about NaNoWriMo in our community. And you may even recognize the interview location…!

It also re-runs on Friday night at several other times, though I’m afraid you’ll have to check the website for those times, or your local listings on whatever channel that is.

Enjoy! Share with your friends and family! REIGN IN MORE WRIMOS!!! :D

The Countdown is ON!

It’s October 20th… which means you have 11 DAYS in which to get that plot together.

Are you ready?

Are you panicking yet?

Are you thinking you’ll never make it?

No worries. No plot, no problem, as we Wrimos say. It’ll all come together in the end… just keep planning, plotting, and dreaming, and the details will follow. Who knows… maybe you’ll have an intense discussion about your novel at the Kick-Off event and find yourself even more inspired than before!

(Kick-Off details coming soon.)

Happy Plotting!

Welcome to Brantford NaNo!

Hey everyone!

Welcome to the regional website for Brantford-Haldimand-Norfolk Wrimos! As you can see, things are pretty sparse around here… but in the days to come, you’ll see a customized theme, photo gallery, links to helpful writing resources, and more!

Please bookmark this site, and check back often as October gets underway. We should have things running smoothly in no time!

Meanwhile, head over to our Official Regional Forum on the NaNoWriMo website and chat with other wrimos about life, the universe, and everything! Be sure to select “Brantford-Norfolk” as your home region in your profile tab – that way we can keep up to date with how everyone’s word counts are coming along, I can send emails out to everyone in the group about upcoming events, and we can compete in some friendly word-warring with neighboring regions :)

See you back here soon… and catch you on the forums!
