About NaNoWriMo & Our Site

National Novel Writing Month is an annual event that takes place during the entire month of November.

The goal: Write a 50,000 word novel by the end of the month!

Here is the Official(tm) Statement (from http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/whatisnano):

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that’s a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and—when the thing is done—the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.

That’s it… one 50,000 word novel per author, in one month. From blank page to finished novel, in 30 days. It’s a fun, exhilarating, exhausting endeavor that may just be the best thing you’ve ever done in any November in your entire life. Seriously! Sign up at the official website, browse the forums, and get plotting… we start writing at 12:01am, November 1st. Still not sure? Visit the How NaNoWriMo Works page at the official website!

NaNoWriMo-ing in Brantford-Haldimand-Norfolk

Yay! This is our seventh year with official status as a region! We have our own forum on the NaNoWriMo website, and we built this website to complement that and to add some extra features & resources for our super regional participants.

As the days progress, there will be plenty more added to the site, so keep coming back to see what’s new!

Our Municipal Liaison

Faith (dark_phoenix)

I’m the seventh-year ML for the Brant/Norfolk region! I like animals, coffee, cake, dancing, video games, hats with cat ears, and books, and not necessarily in that order. To find me at a write-in, I’ll either be wearing a NaNo shirt, a toque with cat ears (HUZZAH SFX ‘09!), or some other silly yet distinguishing item.

I check my NaNoMail regularly, so you can contact me there, or leave a comment on one of the posts on the front page of this website. We also have a Twitter account for our Wrimos, so if you Tweet @BrantfoWrimo, I’ll see it and respond! And why not join the Facebook group while you’re at it? I’m here to answer any questions, address your concerns, or just be excited for you! Let me know about the great things that happen as well as the crappy things, so the group can celebrate each other’s accomplishments together!
